"One Text Message Can Save Up to 75% on Your Medicine"

Oct. 3rd, 2012, by Karina Jones

Now, we are making it easier for everyone to get help with their prescription medications, both online and off.

Rising prices in prescription medication may cause thousands of prescriptions to go unfilled; however, United Way of Yuma County's work with FamilyWize® Community Service Partnership is helping lift some of that burden.

Easily accessible and free to all, the FamilyWize discount card is available for anybody in the community. No application is needed and there are no eligibility, income, or age requirements. United Way of Yuma County and FamilyWize® Community Service Partnership have now made it even easier for everyone to have access to these helpful cards. Now, you can just text the word "family” to 700700 to save up to 75% on the cost of your prescription medicine. "It really is that easy!” said Karina Jones, Resource Development Director of United Way of Yuma County.

When you get a free FamilyWize Prescription Discount Card sent to your cell phone by text, just show the text to your pharmacist. They will automatically apply the discount to the cost of your medicine. You can also get a free FamilyWize card with a click of a mouse; simply click the FamilyWize logo flashing at the bottom of this page.

"When 1 out of every 4 people in our community has trouble buying their medicine, we're looking for all ways possible to make sure every person gets the free help provided by these cards” says Jones.

There are still more than 80 million people in the United States, in every community, large and small, that have no health insurance or need help to buy prescription medicine not covered by their health plan. "Technology makes it possible for us to help a lot more people, much more quickly.” said Dan Barnes, Chief Executive and Co-Chair of FamilyWize. "It's really incredible how cell phones, the Internet, Facebook and Twitter can make getting help so much easier and faster.”

With savings ranging from 30-70%, local savings for FamilyWize participants have already totaled over $320,000 in Yuma County alone. United Way of Yuma County understands the importance of having access to affordable prescription drugs and invites everyone to take part in this free program.
